Science, Maths May Get Two-Level System in Classes 11–12: CBSE

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is reportedly working on introducing a two-level system for Mathematics and Science subjects in Classes 11 and 12.

This move aims to reduce academic pressure while allowing students to choose the difficulty level that aligns with their career goals.

What the Two-Level System Means:

  • Standard Level: For students pursuing engineering, medicine, or science-based careers.
  • Basic Level: For students not continuing in science streams but still needing foundational knowledge.

This format is already in place for Class 10 Mathematics, and the board is now looking to extend it further.

"Flexibility is key to inclusive education. We want students to study without fear," a CBSE official stated.

The proposal is part of CBSE's alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes student choice and multidisciplinary learning.
