The Incident
According to police reports, the women had gathered at the pond for ritual bathing and offerings as part of the Karma Puja, an important festival for agricultural communities. Witnesses said that several of them slipped into deeper waters, and despite frantic rescue attempts by locals, five lives were lost.
The victims, all aged between 16 and 22, belonged to nearby villages. Their bodies were later recovered by rescue teams and sent for post-mortem examinations.
