Tragedy in Bihar: Five Young Women Drown in a Pond During Karma Puja Festivities, Casting a Pall Over the Celebrations

PATNA, India – A festive occasion turned into tragedy in Bihar’s Aurangabad district when five young women drowned in a pond while participating in Karma Puja rituals. The incident occurred late Wednesday evening, shocking the local community and overshadowing the traditional harvest festival celebrations.

The Incident

According to police reports, the women had gathered at the pond for ritual bathing and offerings as part of the Karma Puja, an important festival for agricultural communities. Witnesses said that several of them slipped into deeper waters, and despite frantic rescue attempts by locals, five lives were lost.

The victims, all aged between 16 and 22, belonged to nearby villages. Their bodies were later recovered by rescue teams and sent for post-mortem examinations.
