Tesla's Futuristic Diner is Straight Out of a Sci-Fi Movie: Hollywood Location Opens with Robot Servers and Giant LED Screens
Elon Musk's vision of the future has officially landed in Hollywood. The Tesla Diner & Drive-In, which opened Monday, July 21, 2025, looks like it was plucked directly from a science fiction blockbuster, complete with humanoid robots, massive LED screens, and a design that screams "welcome to the future."
A Sci-Fi Experience Come to Life
Located at 7001 Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood, this isn't your typical pit stop. It's a mash-up of 1950s Americana and Musk's tech-fueled vision of the future, complete with roller-skating servers, retro neon, and two massive LED screens playing old-school cartoons.
At first glance, the Tesla retro diner looks like something straight out of a sci-fi movie. With a sleek metallic exterior and neon accents, the design nods to both a 1950s roadside diner and a futuristic flying saucer. The 9,300-square-foot, two-story facility features a gleaming, saucer-like, stainless-steel edifice that pays tribute to both classic diners and Cybertruck-era minimalism.
Optimus Robot Steals the Show
The real showstopper isn't the food or the futuristic architecture—it's Tesla's Optimus robot. The same robot Tesla teased at AI Day is now handing out popcorn like it's just another employee on the clock, scooping popcorn and waving at attendees. Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot serves popcorn, adding a near-futuristic touch to the dining experience.
"Elon Musk's latest stunt is part sci-fi, part drive-in nostalgia—and all Tesla," noted one tech publication. "This isn't your typical pit stop."
Massive Movie Screens and Space-Age Features
The diner boasts two 66-foot-tall LED "megascreens" and 80 Supercharger stalls for hungry EV owners, operating 24/7. The 45-foot LED screens serve as digital marquees, offering Tesla owners something to watch while charging, whether it's a short film, a cartoon, or a reel of SpaceX highlights.
The sci-fi theme extends to every detail. Even the restrooms feel cinematic, featuring a ceiling window looking down on Earth, giving visitors the sensation of being in space.
Cybertruck-Era Dining Experience
Diners can order from a comfort-food menu crafted by chef Eric Greenspan, featuring Tesla Burgers with "Electric Sauce," all packed in Cybertruck-shaped boxes. You can order from a touchscreen kiosk or straight from your Tesla dashboard using a dedicated app.
The Tesla Diner features 80 V4 Supercharger stalls with ultra-fast 325 kW capability, allowing for rapid EV charging during dining and entertainment. Only Tesla owners can access the in-car theater audio experience, synced through their vehicle's speaker system.
Global Expansion Plans
Musk is already eyeing expansion: "If our retro-futuristic diner turns out well, which I think it will, @Tesla will establish these in major cities around the world, as well as Supercharger sites on long distance routes."
Perhaps the most exciting news for international Tesla fans is that versions of the Tesla retro diner might be coming globally, with Australia among the priority international markets for expansion.
The diner represents more than just a charging station—it's a glimpse into Musk's vision of the future, where technology, entertainment, and necessity seamlessly blend into an experience that feels lifted straight from the silver screen. The venue combines a retro 1950s-style diner with a modern Supercharger station and drive-in theatre, looking and surely feeling taken from the movie Back to the Future.
