Cognizant to Hire 20,000 Freshers in Strategic Workforce Recalibration

IT services giant Cognizant has announced a significant hiring initiative, with plans to bring on board 20,000 freshers this year. CEO Ravi Kumar S revealed that this move is part of a strategic effort to recalibrate the company's workforce pyramid in response to the increasing demand for managed services.
During a recent statement, Kumar emphasized the evolving needs of the IT landscape and how Cognizant is adapting to these changes. "This will now shape the company's pyramid because we are now getting a lot of managed services work," Kumar said. "Now that organic growth has come back, it’s a good time to re-baseline the pyramid,” he added, indicating that this hiring strategy aligns with the company's renewed growth trajectory.
In the IT industry, the term "pyramid structure" describes the composition of a company's workforce, with a large base of entry-level or less experienced employees and a smaller apex of highly experienced and typically higher-paid professionals. This structure is often employed to optimize operational costs and ensure a sustainable talent pipeline. By hiring a substantial number of freshers, Cognizant aims to strengthen its capacity to deliver managed services efficiently and cost-effectively.
This move reflects the growing importance of managed services in the IT sector, where companies increasingly rely on external providers to handle specific functions, allowing them to focus on core business operations. Cognizant's investment in fresh talent signals its commitment to meeting this rising demand and positioning itself for future growth in this segment.
