Union Cabinet Approves ₹3,706 Crore Semiconductor Plant in Jewar

The Union Cabinet has approved a new ₹3,706 crore semiconductor manufacturing plant in Jewar, near the upcoming Noida International Airport.

• This is a joint venture between India's HCL Group and Taiwan's Foxconn.
• The plant will manufacture display driver chips with a capacity of 20,000 wafers per month.
• It aims to meet about 40% of India's local demand for such chips.
• The project is expected to create around 2,000 direct jobs.
• Production is slated to begin in 2027.
• This is the first such unit in Uttar Pradesh and the sixth approved under India's semiconductor mission.
• The initiative will boost India's self-reliance in electronics manufacturing.
