Global Safety Rankings 2025: Andorra and Iceland Lead the World

Global, July 23, 2025 – New comprehensive reports on global safety for 2025 have been released, providing essential insights for international travelers, policymakers, and residents. These reports, primarily the Numbeo Safety Index and the Global Peace Index (GPI), offer distinct perspectives on the world's safest nations.

The Numbeo Safety Index 2025, which is based on user-contributed data regarding crime levels and general perceptions of safety, crowns Andorra as the world's safest country. This microstate nestled in the Pyrenees demonstrates an exceptionally high safety index score of 84.7, attributed to its remarkably low crime rates and strong public trust in law enforcement.

Numbeo Safety Index 2025 - Top 5 Safest Countries (out of 147):

  1. Andorra: 84.7 Safety Index
  2. United Arab Emirates (UAE): 84.5
  3. Qatar: 84.2
  4. Taiwan: 82.9
  5. Oman: 81.7

Notably, other Asian economic powerhouses such as Singapore (77.4) and Japan (77.1) also feature within Numbeo's global top 10. India secures the 66th position with a safety score of 55.7, placing it higher than the United Kingdom (87th, 51.7) and the United States (89th, 50.8), reflecting evolving global safety landscapes. On the other end of the spectrum, countries like Venezuela (19.3), Papua New Guinea (19.7), and Haiti (21.1) are identified as the least safe.

Meanwhile, the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2025, published annually by the Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP), assesses countries based on 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators across three main domains: societal safety and security, ongoing domestic and international conflict, and militarization. For the 17th consecutive year, Iceland maintains its status as the most peaceful nation globally.

Global Peace Index (GPI) 2025 - Top 5 Most Peaceful Countries (out of 163):

  1. Iceland: 1.095 GPI Score (lower score indicates more peaceful)
  2. Ireland: 1.260
  3. New Zealand: 1.282
  4. Austria: 1.294
  5. Switzerland: 1.294

European nations continue to dominate the top ranks for overall peacefulness. Singapore is the sole Asian representative in the GPI's top 10 (6th, 1.357). India shows a positive trend, improving to 115th place globally with a GPI score of 2.229. This improvement contributes to South Asia's overall peacefulness, though it remains the least peaceful region. The GPI identifies Russia, Ukraine, and Sudan as the least peaceful nations for 2025, largely due to ongoing large-scale conflicts.

These comprehensive safety assessments underscore the multifaceted nature of national security, encompassing both the personal sense of safety among residents and a nation's broader stability in a complex geopolitical environment.
