MIR ALI, NORTH WAZIRISTAN – June 28, 2025 – A suicide bomber attacked a military convoy in North Waziristan, Pakistan, yesterday, June 28, 2025, killing at least 13 soldiers and injuring many others, including civilians. The attacker used a vehicle packed with explosives, causing a massive blast in the Mir Ali area. This was a major attack on Pakistan's security forces.

The bomber drove into the military convoy around lunchtime, leading to a huge explosion. The blast destroyed the military vehicle and damaged nearby homes. Reports suggest a large amount of explosives, possibly up to 800 kilograms, was used.

The Hafiz Gul Bahadur group, a part of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has claimed responsibility for the bombing.

After the attack, security forces quickly moved in and reportedly killed 14 militants in gun battles.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and praised the army's quick action. The Pakistani military also suggested India was involved, but India's Ministry of External Affairs strongly denied these claims, calling them "baseless."

This incident highlights the ongoing security problems in Pakistan's tribal areas, especially Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, which share a border with Afghanistan. Since the Taliban took over Afghanistan in 2021, Pakistan has seen more militant violence. Pakistan often accuses the Afghan Taliban of protecting militants who launch attacks across the border, an accusation Afghanistan denies. This year alone, around 290 people, mostly security forces, have been killed in these provinces by anti-government groups.
