Chenab Rail Bridge Becomes World’s Highest Railway Bridge

The Chenab Rail Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir has officially earned the title of the world’s highest railway bridge, standing an astonishing 359 meters above the Chenab River—taller than even the Eiffel Tower.

This extraordinary structure is part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project and was built with durability and resilience at its core:

  • Constructed with blast-proof steel
  • Designed to withstand earthquakes and wind speeds up to 266 kmph
  • Expected lifespan of 120 years
  • Spanning a total length of 1,315 meters

The bridge is a critical link in enhancing rail connectivity to the Kashmir Valley, bringing the region closer to the rest of India through reliable transportation infrastructure.

The Chenab Rail Bridge will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 6, 2025, alongside the Katra–Srinagar Vande Bharat Express, marking a major milestone in Indian rail and infrastructure development.
